What is Place-Based Education

Place-based education is an educational philosophy that uses students' environment and community as a springboard for learning.  Students are utilized as a resource for solving community problems, needs, or interests.  This allows students to become immersed in their local history, culture, economy, community, environment, art - their "place" while solving real-world issues in their communities.  They become valued, active citizens with a stronger connection to their communities and have an authentic audience for their learning.  Students become more engaged and achieve academic goals during the process.
