WMGLSI Teachers

Our annual summer institute will be held August 7-11.  This week-long learning experience will help teachers engage students in hands-on, real world, service-learning opportunities.  Activities include training on NOAA assets. service-learning, and curriculum development.  As well as opportunities to explore and learn about local watersheds and environmental issues.  
Daily Schedule:

*all days run from 8 am - 4 pm

Monday - meet at the GVSU Muskegon Innovation Hub (formerly MAREC) 200 Viridian Drive, Muskegon, MI  49440
- Morning will be spent learning about the basics of place-based education and service-learning along with environmental citizen and what is a watershed activities.

Tuesday - meet at the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve (located on Lake Ave. in North Muskegon, parking right across the street from Rite Aid)
- morning will be spent learning about native and invasive species at the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve
- late morning and early afternoon will be spent taking a bike ride along Muskegon Lake to learn about the history of Muskegon Lake and various restoration projects along the way.

Wednesday - Muskegon Area ISD North Campus
We will spend all day working with Dr. Ethan Lowenstein from Eastern Michigan University

Thursday - meet at the GVSU Muskegon Innovation Hub
-morning will be spent at the NOAA field station
-afternoon we will focus on community partners with our community partner speed dating activity.

Friday - meet at the GVSU Muskegon Innovation Hub (formerly MAREC) 200 Viridian Drive, Muskegon, MI  49440
-morning will include an expert teacher panel
-afternoon will be time to plan with your team and meet your field coordinator

Be sure to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and anything else you might need for the weather.  We will be outside for a good portion of the institute.
